68 year old Mooney pilot with 40 years experience goes down 17 miles off the shore of NJ after a 3 hour flight from Michigan.

It doesn't make much sense that he would be that far out off shore (considering he would have overflown ACY). The flight aware log shows nearly 6000 fpm descent at the last radar return. It would seem, unfortunately, that he became incapacitated during the flight. Perhaps the plane ran out of fuel. We'll know soon enough when they check ATC to see when he last spoke to him.
