When an aircraft is sold, I think I read the rvsm approval does not automatically transfer with the aircraft.
(T or F?)
If correct, what are the hoops?

It does not transfer.

Assuming it was approved in the past, you do not need to get approval again as long as you stay in the US. There are more restrictions so research it. ADSB helped getting proof. Look up your N# at https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/separation_standards/naarmo/rvsm_approvals

If you want to fly international, you will need to get approval. I understand it is quicker and easier now. Last time I did it was 2007 and it took 1-2 months on an airplane that was previously approved.

it does not transfer upon sale... but 'no need to get it approved again'.
(?)
[still a bit confused here]

so, it does appear there. Maybe it was transferred but no paperwork placed in the airplane. Prob need call fizzdough.

Thanks

The below website explains it pretty well.

That’s very helpful, thanks.
We are yes to all 6 questions, so won’t bother to apply for a new operator-specific LOA.

I guess only remaining Q is, any paperwork to be carried aboard?
(I noticed this issue- only rvsm paperwork in airplane is the previous owners LOA)

From the KBUR thread I am guessing you have a CJ. There should be a flight manual supplement about the RVSM and ADSB equipment. I am not sure about the supplement if the plane left the factory with the correct equipment.

Depending on the age of your plane it could have left the factory with the required the equipment. On our Ultra it was done using a service bulletin. Older planes used an STC to meet the requirements.

Other than the supplement I cannot think of anything.
