Apparently they wanted a 200 hp engine for drones and decided that a radial is a smart idea. This is what happens when your design culture is built around M-14P.
Among the whackiest tradeoffs made: flathead and direct-drive. Reminds me of D-motor. Note that the Rotec has a planetary step-down gearset. But I guess that would make the cylinders and conrods too lightweight, or something.
