Russian Base Jumper

I think Darwin's theory was invoked here. Doubt that little parachute and snow could have saved him.

Well, if Darwin meant that we die for ever stupid idea, how many of us would still be here? Not me, that is for sure (knock on wood). Luckily, that is not what it means.

This was on Tosh.0 the other night, he said the guy survived.:dunno: You can't help but think of Wiley Coyote and the Roadrunner when you see the video! :D:D

I hope he did, but I think they are just saying that so they can air the clip. Watch the shadow as he hits. I can't imagine that was survivable.

He looked very scared as if it was his first time didnt seem fit to do this plus his camera person didnt seem to care when it didn't look good! Glad he is okay though.

Yeah, pretty much as Greg explained. The guy looked very tentative and nervous on the platform. My guess is that he didn't have much, if any, experience making base jumps. He let his head drop and pitched over onto his back. I couldn't actually see if the pilot chute bridle wrapped around his leg, but it's likely. At any rate, he was unable to get his main deployed on his back.

Found this translation of the Russian description of the event:

160m powerline tower. Front loop, stowed, pulled too soon (standing up) and into crosswind, bridle went under arm and remained there till impact. Container opened, but nothing inflated, lines still stowed in the rubber band on a tailpocket. Hit soft deep snow at 7 seconds.

Unconscious for 2 minutes. Broken back and other lesser injuries. Presently in the hospital, speaking to his friends on the phone.

That is good. Should not have to die young from being stupid - that can wait until he is older. LOL. And knock on wood from this stupid older guy.

160 meters is WAY too low to attempt a front loop in dead air! I really think this guy was very lacking in experience and training.

I think that is also evident in how tentative he is to jump. Not confident at all.

Front loop wasnt intentional, result of a **** poor head low exit. Momentum carried him over.
