I got a RJ-232 No Data message on the G5 yesterday and yet every thing was working as advertised. We are hooked up to a Garmin 375 GPS and 215 NavComm. I didn't do a reboot after landing and I'll try that today, and did a database update prior to flying yesterday.

Is this a glitch, anything I can self check before we pull the parts cannon out?

Thanks

Presumably you mean RS-232, as that is one of the data buses on the G5.

Do you have just the one (HSI) G5, or do you have a G5 AI as well? Each G5 has only one RS-232 connection, but if you have two of them, they can use other buses to share the information they each get via RS-232. Normally that is one GPS connection and one VHF Nav radio.
Per the install manual, the G5 AI can receive GPS data via the RS-232 bus, and if there is also a G5 HSI installed, both G5s can get GPS and VHF navigation information via RS-232.

If you see it again, try shooting an ILS approach with it (VMC, of course!) and see if that works correctly.

The GPS over RS-232 (MapMX) is solely for ADAHRS aiding. Navigational GPS and VOR/ILS comes in over ARINC 429.

Two G5s,just getting the message in the one with the HSI...

Thanks.

Depending on how they hopped the MapMX signal over from the first one...if they split the RS-232 at the GPS, or if they daisy chained it from the AI G5...perhaps a break or even a recessed contact in the G5 harness connector.

Whoops - I had that in the original (too long) version of my post, and completely cut it during editing.
