Riddle me Timbers!

A murderer is convicted of his crime and thus is sentenced to death. He gets to choose the way he must go by picking from one of three rooms: 1) A room full of murderers armed with knives. 2) A room full of poisonous snakes. 3) A room full of lions that haven't eaten for years. Which room is the safest choice for the murderer, and why?

Don't cheat. Its worth it to figure it out.

I'll take the room full of poisonous snakes. As long as I don't eat 'em, they're harmless. Thank God they aren't venomous snakes, or I'd worry about them biting me.
