It'll be interesting to see how this plays out... perhaps our legal pals can cut through the mess to tell us if this would affect anything and how exactly this would go from a court case to changing 17 USC 504?

Did the RIAA try to drop that suit? That's what they've done up to now to avoid losing a case. I'm sure they don't want to reveal the dollars they get from legal downloads.
