I have a David Clark H10-66X headset. It has a dynamic mic, with a built-in high/low impedance switch to work in GA aircraft. It is a good headset, except that the mic is noisy in the windy Cub.

Heavy-duty windscreen is inadequate. So I'd like to swap out the mic. Does anyone know if this one would work?

And would I have to muck with the wiring, or would I just leave the high/low switch on low (or high)?

Yes you can do that, no you don't have to mess with the wires, just the little screws to remove the old mic and mount the new. But it won't help much in the Cub, not with the door open. Unless you want to strap leather covers and all that malarkey over the mic. Even so, ATC will have problems hearing you. But you can absolutely do that, it will work ok most of the time, and it will save you $40.00 versus the solution below:

If you want a true solution, the ONLY real microphone made for that environment is ours:
http://www.thesquawkshoppe.com/products/aviation-headset-extreme-high-noise-environment-microphone Don't put a leather windscreen on it, it doesn't need it, and you'll burn the mic up if you do. Seriously, just try it. I've got a money back guarantee, and it won't come back, they never do.

If you have a steel-wire boom, you need this little connector though:

Leave the headset on "Hi Impedance" and you're good. If you somehow switch it to low, the mic just won't work properly. Hopefully you already have the dual plug adapter. Don't forget your PoA discount code (good forever): PILOTSOFAMERICAMEMBERS

Shane, thanks for the reply. I have the standard Mic on my other headset, and it does seem to work ok (with the leather cover. If I go with the high noise Mic, will there be any issue using it in a normal aircraft?

No issues, it will work great in quiet environments too. Just requires a little squelch adjustment.

You can always just take the mic from your other headset as well and use that, if you want to avoid purchasing any more microphones.
