So, China spends hundreds of billions of dollars on infrastructure to replace coal consumption. http://gcaptain.com/worlds-powerful-dam-stonewalls-coal-shipments-china/

Is it any wonder why China's economy grows while ours sinks deeper? We waste all our money waging war to assure our ability to use outmoded polluting forms of foreign energy for private company profits while China's nationalized energy system invests their money and resources into developing domestic resource to replace it.

my Chinese Solar stocks are taking an arse whooping.

If you are buying stock in Chinese companies, you are a fool. Do not ever forget that China is still Communist and is just using Capitalist's greed to defeat them. Make no mistake, we are losing the 'war on Communism'.

China has been building 2 new coal plants per month. They are also building 2 nuke plants per year.

You are right, china will have cheap energy, while the West is killing it's energy output.

I have opinions but I ain't touching this thread with a ten foot pole.

Same here, because soon someone will chime in about how the Chinese economy depends strongly on the American economy, and then the arguments will fly.

And in another subject, my Mexico stocks are doing well.

But the new coal plants are replace old coal plants, they understand that they have a major pollution problem and the old plants are inefficient. The fact remains, their consumption of coal is declining.

Did you have specific rivers in mind for new dams? Have you read about the huge displacements of people and historical places necessitated by their Three Rivers dam? It was pretty breathtaking.

New rivers for us? No, we already used all ours pretty much. No, we need to be building Thorium reactors and developing geothermal in our volcanic regions.

Such displacement will pale in comparison to the displacements we will see if sea level rises one meter.

If you guys are buying solar stocks you must have a pretty strong feeling that it holds huge potential for growth. And you may be right based on new technologies that are bringing the cost of solar down dramatically.

Truth. Plus, if we want to operate at these levels of population, sacrifices have to be made, better they be engineered and peaceful ones rather than destructive and violent ones like the wars we get ourselves into.

Are those the areas where you've put your investments?

Yep, but first I would build out the hydrogen infrastructure so we don't waste as much of what we already produce and are capable of producing due keeping a lightly loaded grid charged during off peak hours. Then I would start replacing dirtier infrastructure with newer technology spurring further development of that technology. Just like any other technology, in the beginning you build what you can make work, then improve it as you learn more about it. Look at where computer technology has come since ENIAC, or even the TRS-80 or PC-AT.

There are no technological hurdles we cannot overcome, look at the development of atomic energy and how few years it took to go from Fermi's first reactor to the build out at Hanford WA and Oak Ridge TN onward to the nuclear plants of the 50s. We did this all to provide plutonium to fight wars.

If we were a truly Christian nation we would put forth that level of effort rather than to develop bombs to fight wars, to produce fresh water and energy to prevent wars. We have the opportunity and technology base to do so and prevent the next round of wars, the question is, will we?

Oops, misread the first question, no, I have no investments.
