Reno Air Races

I am thinking of going to the Reno Air Races this year. I have never been there before. Does anyone have suggestions for where to stay, best day to be there, best place to be to see the races, etc?

I understand that you can purchase a pit pass, where you can get up close and personal with the airplanes. One of the podcasts had an episode on it; I'll have to see if I can dig it up and link to it.
