Last week offered a rare totally smooth-air day in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Both the previous week and this week offered winds on the plains exceeding 25G40 before 9am, and a very experienced pilot said last week's mountain weather happens just 2-3 days per year.

Here's a video of me crossing Hayden Pass in a Mooney M20E from Alamosa KALS to Longmont KLMO. I'm flying at 12,000 feet, the pass is 10,700, and the mountains to the left are 13,105. Gorgeous. Fun. Very efficient mountain climbing!

I landed at Rifle and Eagle on Monday last week and then departed Eagle last Thursday. I couldn't believe how clear and calm it was the whole time I was there.

Very nice! My brother is based out of Longmont, flies an Extra.

Saw some beeyootiful snowy mountains there last weekend...yes the wind sucked.

I flew down the TOMSN arrival into APA this evening and it was not smooth, at least not between about FL250 and 12,000, LOL. When I saw this post I thought you were talking about today!
