We are selling our Redbird LD Flight Simulator with about 30 hours and 1 year old. Asking price is $40,000. The market here is not supporting the endeavor.

The panel model we have set up is for the Cessna C172-S1. C172-S1 is the configuration designator from Redbird. It is a single engine land, fixed gear, fixed pitch prop, high wing airplane with traditional round gauge instruments, Redbird 430/530 GPS, and Redbird KAP 140 Autopilot. I had the “engine” upgraded to 195 horsepower for our altitude (the computer knows the altitude at any given airport and the engine performs accordingly). The sim is an Advanced Aviation Training Devise (AATD) certified by the FAA. The hours authorized log time. Perfect for a flight school.

The sim also comes with seats and platform for a student and instructor. The instructor side does not have any flight controls. We found it was difficult for the instructor to both “fly” the airplane and put in flight challenges through the included laptop. The laptop is a separate hook-up that allows the instructor to program failures on the panel, change weather, and relocate the aircraft to a nav-aid or other airport.

The unit also comes with a Parrot option. This is Redbird’s attempt to allow students to work on simulated ATC phraseology. It does not work well but the key board that comes with it is a nice work around for setting up flights.

The sim is controlled by pilot keys (or the Parrot plug-in). These keys are USBs that allow the instructor/owner to control the hours that are purchased by a client and/or set up mission profiles for any given client. Extra keys can be purchased directly from Redbird at about $5 apiece.

The unit also has a Elf Pro GPS that hooks into the sim computer. It sends out a signal to geo-reference the sim on any approach plate or map that you may have on an iPad for instrument approaches, etc. It works well with ForeFlight.

The room needed for the sim should be at least 9.5 ft wide and 5 ft deep with a standard 110 volt, 15 amp wall outlet. Though not necessary, it is highly recommended there be a high speed internet connection to allow remote diagnostics, support, and software updates.

Have you considered getting a liquor license to go with the RedBird? I don't think there's any regs against logging sim time while plastered, is there? :)
