My flying club is debating the pros and cons of purchasing a simulator. The purpose being enhancement of training and generating revenue for the upgrade fund. I thought I would get opinions from this group on the subject....

If your club is looking to generate revenue I would suggest not spending money. Clubs should be just that, clubs. Generating revenue is for businesses looking to take money from people. Just my opinion though.

When it costs as much as fuel for the plane, I start questioning the value vs. actual flight time.

I'd pay for a sim only if it was 60% cheaper then the real plane, and that's only if I needed to practice something specific, once. Pretty much everything can be done in the plane so I'd rather pay a little more and be able to log the hours and enjoy the actual flying (which is the reason why I'm doing everything in the first place).

Local place has a Redbird (motion) sim, but it's $90/hr.

Personally, I think that's a bit high.
