After my lesson today I went flying with my instructor in the school's 172, and this red Beech Staggerwing just kept getting in the way, so we had no choice but to take pictures. I flew while he snapped. (My next career move?)

Toby, I hate you! (just kidding)

The only thing more beautiful than a Staggerwing is a Staggerwing in the air!

ps: I'm back in the air! Sky Acres for breakfast this morning!

Skip! Good to hear from you. GREAT that you're back in the air. Let's meet one morning at Sky Acres.

That's as close to porn as you'll be able to post on this site!

Same results here. I need a cigarette. :D

Excellent photos, Toby. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, after reading these replies, I'm thinking I should post one of these photos in the personals. Might just work!

Absoluely awewome. Thanks for sharing.

Are you kidding that the Staggerwing kept "getting in the way" or was the flight arranged?

I would be a little intimidated if someone was that close and we had not agreed up front to do so.

Were you at least on comms with the person?

I was kidding about that, Dan. The pilot of the Staggerwing asked us to take aerial photos of him. He is based in the hangar next door to where I'm training. We were on the radio with him the whole time, setting up the shots. It was a lot of fun flying in formation and watching him swoop down from above right in front of us, then bank off to the left. I did all the flying while my instructor took photos.

I was pretty sure you were.

You are awesome in your ability to get up close and personal with a tremendous variety of airplanes.

I am so jealous ;-)

I'm surprised you could keep up, the Beech 17's can cruise as around 200 mph! Very nice pictures BTW, thanks for sharing.

He was dancing around us, Lance. Yes, he was much faster! We toddled back to the airport and he was only a dot in the distance.

"Single high wing seeks bi-playmate. Must enjoy being photographed and displayed on the internet...."

Same thing happens with a formation flight with a Citabria and an Extra. ;)

Nice pictures Toby, thanks for posting them. Sounds like you had a great flight doing your aerial photography. :)

Beautiful airplane. Now if I could just afford one of those, and an Edge 540 (saw Kirby Chambliss perform today, dont think the decathalon can do all those manuevers) :)

Next to the Edge, the Decathlon is NOTHING. :)

This guy owns quite a few airplanes that most of us can only fantasize about. I think he has 7 or 8, plus about 50 classic cars.....

There's also an airshow guy here who has an Edge. I've seen him perform a couple times -- that's one powerful machine. It can fly out of flat spins.

Yes, it was a great, unexpected bonus to the day. :)

That wasn't what I meant, but very funny!

Great pics Toby. The A&P at my old shop in PA maintains one just like that. I used to see it in for annuals. Wow, what a spectacular airplane. Thank G*d there are people out there willing to keep these plane flying cause it ain't cheap.

You gotta get some stick time in the Beech. Seems a fair trade for taking the photos.

It would be a rare opportunity to experience a heavy taildragger. Once that radial starts heading for the grass, it's tough to stop it.

I think so, too. I'm working on it. :)

So far the owner has let me sit in it while parked. Lots of wood inside, and crank-down windows. He also has a Stearman (that's for later on this spring).
