Recruiters (rant)

Niiiiice.

That blatant about illegal hiring practices?

Dang.

That's not really an illegal hiring practice, the guy didn't say "only Christians willing to pray along are allowed.", he just told him about the situation because it does make some people uncomfortable. It's not an illegal practice to provide full disclosure and allow the applicant to decide if it's a fit. Personally I think it was a stand up thing of the recruiter to say.

I don't deal with them. At all.

I'm a permanent employee, no contract to hire BS. here's my salary requirements. Thanks.

You crazy SAP people are in a position to make demands :)

I don't rant often (I don't think I do)

So first time job hunting in ~5 years.

A significant chunk of the calls are a recruiter telling me about some job that fits me perfectly and then at some point in the conversation they say "Oh you know what? I just realized that position is no longer open. By the way do you happen to know any Java developers? I have 2 Java positions available. Maybe you could reach out to your programmer friends that might be looking. I also have 2 Oracle DBA positions open. Do you know any people that might be a good fit?"

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The first time or two I thought it was a legit mistake but now I realize they want me to be part of their recruiting effort. It keeps happening.

Additionally I get the calls telling me I am a perfect for this Perl developer position in New York

I finally asked "What makes you think it is perfect for me? I do not have listed on my resume, Perl anywhere. I am not even programming anymore and every job on my resume for the last 15 years has been in Dallas."

click

If you happen to be an IT recruiter, please take the time to read peoples' resumes and use a calculated process to do your job properly. I understand there are automated programs that search buzzwords and I get that but these are humans that are phoning it in.

grrr.

Rant over.

Edit: P.S. If you are a Perl developer in New York, I have a number for you ;)

I get an occasional call like that, from when I was looking for my first Nurse Practitioner gig and I put myself "out there"...

I thought I took all my stuff down.

So far I've gotten occasional calls, and frequent emails... And one call like you described where she asked if I could ask any of my friends/colleagues if they would be interested so she could call them...

And she seemed offended when I said I wasn't going to do her footwork for her, if my colleagues wanted to look elsewhere they could choose to engage a recruiter or not.. She actually started to argue with me.!! Disconnected AND blocked her. Buh Bye..

So far I've also found my resume posted without my consent, with my email and cell phone number, to some online bulletin board.. (I google myself every once in a while to confirm my online footprint is reasonably nonexistent to the casual observer)... talked to the admin to get that one pulled.

I made it clear I was looking not to relocate, for positions in Houston only, and only in specific settings. So far, not a single call or email met those requirements. No, I won't go to Vanderbuilt. No I won't go to LA.. No I won't go to west texas.. No I won't work in a pain clinic in Dallas...

On occasion we advertise for a PT legal secretary. Among other things the ad always says 2-3 years legal secretary experience required. The resume's I get include a Nanny and Waitress, Security guards, people in paralegal school, Office manager for a physician's office and others with zero legal secretary experience.

Adam, I currently have my feelers out to hire ophthalmic techs and an office manager. The last resume I received was for someone who had done some tech work years ago but has been working as a legal secretary for the past three years......

Nah, I just don't feel that I'm owed a job where I prefer to live. I'll pick up my bags and move anywhere for a good opportunity. I lived in 6 states and each time has been an upgrade with an average distance of 2000 miles or so between gigs.

Just Happened again 12/9/2014 12:21 PM CST

20 min on the phone with captain Um uh uuuuh huh um...
asking me all about my background then says I siht you not

"well it looks like you are more on the IT side of things. This is more of a corporate trainer role and may not be a good fit. Do you know any of your peers that might be interested in a role like this?"

I was very polite but in my head getting more and more irritated after we decided it wasn't a fit and waiting for him to get through all of his "Uh Uh huh Um ua... I shouldn't be in a speaking role" nonsense trying to end the call.

insanity.

Next recruiter calls me, first words out of my mouth "I am seeking position xyz that pays x-y. Is this what you have available?"

LOL next time give them the name Pete Sahut and the local delivery number.

6PC - I thought you were still in talks with that startup you mentioned in the other "WTH Job Interview" thread. How did that go? Are they still a contender?
