Read a book.

Nothing will ruin a book faster for me than some glaring grammatical or editing error in the middle of it. I mean, seriously... you're going to sell a PAPERBACK edition for $15, and you can't make sure all the bloody words are spelled right, AND the right homonyms are used? Please don't depend on spell check. If I'm paying for the book, it should be properly edited.

That doesn't get me as badly. Even pros screw up. Heck, they were finding typos in my book after three sets of eyes looking at it. And mine is only 128 pages, and full of diagrams.

I do think writing for which I am paying should be far, far better than the crap that comes out of my own computer. That doesn't mean the touch more accurate (although there is a level of carelessness that hits my bad button as well) but it should make better use tone English language than I can.

That really isn't a very high bar to set, either.

I'll read on anything.

What I can't abide is bad writing. ;)
Ditto.

At an absolute minimum I expect any author to have done simple spell and grammar checks. I posted a very negative review of an ebook on Amazon a while ago that included numerous (almost every page) spelling/grammar errors. But the very worst thing about the book was the obvious over dependence on a thesaurus to swap out common words with some of the most esoteric terms I've ever seen.

My library has an electronic lending library. Can you read that on a kindle or nook? Seems like the kindle app only stores Amazon books. Can you get them from outside sources like the library or FAA Manuals?
I prefer books. Actually, I prefer brand new books, generally paperbacks. They are usually more portable. I did have the entire set of Robert Ludlum Borne novels in hardcover. Good stories but a bear to cart around!

Wrong.l have 2 kindles plus Kindle on my iPhone and iPad and I only buy the book once and it's on all of them. You can lend books on your kindle to another persons Kindle if it's a lendable book...not all of them are lendable....and you can only lend it once. The great thing about the Kindle is that you can order a book and be reading it in a few seconds, can hold thousands of books which is great when traveling.

Not a fan of the Kindle or any ebook reader for the following reasons.
- If I read a book and I like it I can't say "Hey Susan I just read One for the Money you should try it" Because ultimately they'd say "Can I borrow it?" "No sorry I had it on my Kindle"

- From what I understand if something happens to the ebook device the books you purchased were only for that one device and if you buy another ebook device you have to rebuy the books.

But it's ultimately for the first item. I deal with computers all day and don't need another electronic *thing* in the house!

I've heard that you can get non-amazon books on the kindle, but I'm not sure how to do it - or if it's even possible. I would love to know if it is possible, though.

Probably in most people's top 5 reasons to use an electronic reader.

I borrow eBooks from the library all the time for my Nook. I actually have two accounts, one in CO and one in OH so I can get books from both. You do need to download a reader from the library but that's simple.

What I typically do is download it to my Desktop and then load it to my Nook. Its easier for me to do the book search on the bigger screen.

Cheers
