A friend of mine in Charleston, a Captain USNR sent me an e-mail with these. Also included is the text of his message.

These are in-flight photos of the F/A-22 as the first aircraft delivery was
being made to Langley AFB in VA. Langley is to be first operational AFB
for the F/A-22.

The Aircraft flying along with the F/A-22 in the last of these photos
is the F-15, which will be replaced by the F/A-22 which is several times
better than the F-15.

In actual in-flight (simulated) combat operations against the F-15,
two F/A-22's were able to operate without detection while it went
head-to-head against (8) F-15's. The F/A-22's scored missile hits (kills) against all the F-15 aircraft, and the F/A-22's were never detected by either the F-15's or ground based radar.

The Raptor operated against all adversaries with virtual impunity;
ground based systems couldn't engage and NO adversary aircraft survived.

F/A-22-- America's most advanced fighter aircraft for the 21st
century!!!!

I've been watching these guys train at Nellis when I visit our Las Vegas office. The office sits on a hill overlooking the base. Slick planes.

Any idea where I can rent one?

I noticed the aileron thing too. It also looks like both "rudders" are deflected outwards as well. Is that some sort of spoiler mixing, or something otherwise to slow 'er down?

No thanks, I don't think I want one. I'd be concerned about the additional maintenance of the retractable gear. I'll keep the Tiger.

:)

Cool pics!

hmm - are the pictures modified for National Security? They kind of look photoshopped.

Speed brakes maybe?

As I recall reading somewhere, the aerodynamics on the lastest generation of planes is such that the control inputs are not always as one would expect - the resulting instability is what gives the craft the level of agility they want, but would make it next to impossible to fly without all of the computerized flight controls.

Not sure if this was one of the planes they were referring to, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I personally like the 3rd picture,Got to love those contrails, Dave G

What is the ground location in the third picture?
It's, um, below the airplane... you can see it right there under it...

gosh, I'd have thought that was obvious! :D :D :D

[Chris, you knew this was coming, right? I mean, it's not like any of us have a choice... :D]

I wrote that question three times and could not come up with a
smart-*** :blowingkisses: proof way to phrase it.

Oh well. Ok try this. Can aynone tell me the name and or specific location of the unique land feature in picture # 3?
Thanks.

Okay, as evidenced from above I am obviously geographically challenged. BUT I show Langley more in the vicinity of 37 deg 4' 58.08" and
-76 deg 21' 37.8". I tried google earth yesterday and had all land locked feature at your lat and long. What gives? I was closer to Smith Mountain Lake then Langley AFB. But not really there either
Chris

p.s. don't have/can't put google earth on this computer, but have Iternet access

Odd - when I used google earth, and put the curser right smack dab in the middle of that thing, the numbers agreed Keith's! Twice!

Am I the only one who thinks those pictures don't look quite "real"? They rather look like a CGI image (a very good CGI image) superimposed on a background. :dunno:

Okay Tom. Do it a third time and write the numbers down without looking at any of the above posts. Then post the numbers here.
