1. You need to register with eApis. That's is the CBP's online advance notification system. You log in there, say where and when you're going to pass the border, what time, and who's onboard.

2. You need a CBP decal for your plane. It can be ordered here:

https://dtops.cbp.dhs.gov/main/login_internet.jsp;jsessionid=3bmVVLVMyrq8vt4WyTWD4GdVDKGKjBTFtnbnzKtZ6yK9nFGqyLnn!1439162443

3. You need to file a flight plan, even if you're VFR.

4. You need to call CANPASS, which is Canada's equivalent to eApis and tell them where and when you're landing.

5. For your return (if you're not American citizen) - make sure you and all your passengers have either visa or green card. ESTA won't do it.

6. Also, make sure you call CBP on your return and arrange, the eApis does not take care of making sure there will be inspectors there. They get really worked up about this if you don't.

The whole process is pretty straightforward. EApis is quick to fill in and the rest is pretty easy. The only thing that can sour your day is if the CBP inspector is in a bad mood. I've had very smooth and good experiences, but I've heard of other who haven't. It can help by not flying into designated airports that see a lot of traffic. Chose one that's a little more off the beaten path.

thanks guys

i will read the info you post ,if i have question i will ask .

Go to the aopa web site, also when returning to the states ,keep the transponder code you get in Canada all the way to the states.

hi

i look for good airport near niagara falls and the casino

what is the best airport to land that have fuel and free fee for landing and parking ?

i will rent a airplan form new york (KHWV)

Thanks for the great help guys ,your info help me to plan the trip on the good site.

You live on Long Island? My wife has family there (as well as Manhattan). Flying to Canada will probably be cheaper than paying the NY tolls if you are driving.
