Hi there,

For anyone who flies into and out of ABE regularly:

Where are the usual practice areas, and are they referred to in a specific way (e.g. West or East practice area)?

When preparing to depart VFR to the practice area, do you radio CD, tell them where you're heading to, and ask for a squawk then? Sorry if it's a dumb question--I don't usually go to Class C fields.

Thanks!

Matt:
I know when flying out of ABE even VFR you need a squwak code. Clnc Del will give it to you then to Gnd then tower then Approach. IIRC correctly when we did hood work inside the "C" we kept our code for the duration of our time in the C.

I am not sure of the exact dimensions of the practice areas. You may want to check with the flight school in Hangar 7.

I do know that the "North Practice Area" is on the north side of the ridge - over beltzville lake. The "South Practice area" is just beyond Lake Knockamixon. If you are in the north area they will keep you on a squawk code. If you head to the south they will cancel services when you get to Lake Knockamixon.

Hope that helps.
