Look for these at Oshkosh this year - set up in 2 minutes and expandable by connecting two together.

Now the only question is - will they hold up?

Doesn't look very wind resistant...

My daughter in law sent us this, suggesting that we should each buy one and link them together.

Great idea, until the inevitable midweek storm. That thing would blow through the North 40 like a big tumbleweed.

You don't stake down your tents? I'd be far more concerned about them breaking or being big and heavy than whether or not they would blow away.

Yup. We stake down to beat the band.

And, despite this, in 2006ish, one of the big storms tore our tall, squarish tent loose and wrapped the poles around my wing.

Underestimate a July Wisconsin thunderstorm at your peril. They can have 60+ mph straight line winds.

Since then, we have been sure to buy tents that, while still tall, have sloped sides. Just like sloped tank armor deflects a shell, the sloped sides deflect the wind. No problems since, and we have weathered some hellascious storms.

That thing in the OP looks like it is guaranteed to catch the wind. And as you note it's a rare Oshkosh when there isn't at least one CB outflow event across the campground, even if the squall line misses the airport directly.

heh. if that means the same thing as "porta potty" totally agree. otoh, if it works....

The storm that passed just yesterday morning and cleared out any lawn furniture and whatever wasn't tied down, hit 80mph in certain places, with sustained 60mph winds all across the frontal boundary.
I think the stake would be the only thing left at the campsite. :)

Not necessarily for Oshkosh, but I want one for family camping trips. That thing looks very simple to set up and take down and I like the idea of connecting them. Pretty cool

No fly? No dry entrance. You can ask Pete about problems with his fly in wet weather.

Wait for gen 2.

@Jay Honeck -- I'm surprised you haven't gotten one of these

Can't really do a fly if the manufacturer doesn't know what the configuration is going to be. But you're point is well taken. That's a very good reason for this to be a non-starter for me.

Crap design, tents are shaped the way they are for a Reason. This is just some of that new age garbage where some clown designed it on his computer and thought it would be cool. It was most likely designed to be on an infomercial. There are plenty of other tents that you can connect together that won't blow into the next county when a slight breeze hits it.
And yes I did stay at a Holliday inn express last night!

Acro, I think the lack of sleep from having a new child is making you cranky. ;)

Or maybe you just aren't getting enough airplane building therapy time these days?
Get into the workshop and bang out some wing ribs, or something!

Well there was that one year where Jay's tent location was "under the lighted multicolor dildo." LOL.

I remeber that...I was scared to walk up and introduce myself not knowing what I was in store for.hahaha.. Turned out Jay was an alright fella. I sure wish I would have come back for the party though! I had oshkosh plans this year but with a contract change and a new company I don't have vacation days until october:(
