Purple board down?

OK. I couldn't get my pilot forum fix for the day because the PB was down. I actually had to work in the office!

That kinda forced me here :D This seems like a nice place. I've had a login here for a while, but maybe I should explore it some :)

I have just received an update regarding the PB.....promise it will be up in under an hour......

.......I've had a frustrating day not being able to get a PB fix. I got more work done though! I did draft up my response to the Scary Moments threads......most of which occured because me or someone else was stupid.

hahahahahhaha! Not laughing at you, laughing(crying) with you. this is the IT equivalent of 'checks in the mail'. I've worked with hosting sites for years, and the most likely culprit is actually a network access fault or network firewall issue. ask them what changes they made to the routers on your network. I think you'll hear a lot of silence.

Looks fine to me. Could be a routing issue.

The problem with this stuff is all the layers of companies involved.

Purpleboard pays a company called "F5 Hosting" for their web hosting. F5 Hosting doesn't actually physically maintain the servers or network. They rent the servers from another company called "MyRealServer.com".

MyRealServer.com doesn't actually run the network or power either. They rent space from another company called Priority Colo which actually runs the data center.

So basically you have this happening:

  1. Purpleboard reports problem to F5 Hosting
  2. F5 Hosting will fix the software issue if they can. Otherwise if it is network/hardware they report the problem to MyRealServer.com
  3. MyRealServer.com will repair the server if they can--but if it is a network problem they report it to Priority Colo
  4. Generally things will end at Priority Colo but it is possible for more complicated routing issues to extend out to their backbone providers (Global Crossing) in this case.
Basically F5 Hosting is a little guy trying to make a quick buck by reselling the services of MyRealServer.com. The funny thing about all this is that each company pretends like they run the whole show :)

Software guys are ALWAYS blaming hardware.
How many software engineers does it take to change a lightbulb? None. That's a hardware problem.
It rained today. Not enough moisture "in the cloud".
