I remember spending a week at a DEC facility in Sunnyvale, CA taking their PDP-11 Assembly Language Programming course when I worked for the Navy. That was about 1977 or 1978. A bit before your time, William. But, you know C, don't you? It's just a high level representation of PDP-11 assembly language. Same memory contructs, etc.

I remember, but don't miss, those old machines. :D
 
....always that moment of truth, when you'd flip the toggle to "Run," and see whether the "Run" light stayed lit.

I have an actual AT&T UNIX manual for the (I think) 3B2 that says "UNIX requires 4 Kilobytes of main memory." I pulled it out of a wastebasket at Bell Labs.
