What control does the FAA have on the owner taking care of the field/runway.

If it becomes a hazard can the FAA require the owner to improve it ?

No. All they can do is list it as hazardous and/or rescind the official recognition that it's an airport.

Well, specifically they can mark it as OBJECTIONABLE and refuse to publish information about it. Other than that, they don't really have the authority to do anything.

The Objectionable label is for airspace determinations:

What does "OBJECTIONABLE" stand for on VFR Charts?

"OBJECTIONABLE" indicates an airspace determination per FAA Joint Order 7400.2J Section 4, Airport Charting and Publication of Airport Data, issued 9 FEB 2012. When you see this indication on a chart be sure to refer to the applicable Airport/Facility Directory for more information. FAA Regional Airports Offices are responsible for airspace determinations. Address any challenges to objectionable airspace determinations to your regional airports office. Contact Information for FAA Regional Airports Offices.

If I had a private airport I'd build it short or mow it skinny just to keep the uncommitted out. Do you really want the gov acting like an HOA for private airports?

When the airport is privately owned but marked on the sectionals as public used, shouldn't there be a standard for the conditions of, for example the runway?

I'd roll out a tarp with a big "X" out over the runway between my own uses.

Not if the AFD description is accurate or the condition is obvious.

Just as with public use airports the airport master record has whatever the airport manager submits.
