I have found the following site very helpful for getting a peek at the weather several days in advance. Of course weather forecasts that far out in the future cannot be relied on... but this site condenses the need to know information very concisely. Pay attention to the check boxes near the top to customize the view to your liking.

The problem is that this page is very hard to find for locations that you have not bookmarked. So I sent an email to the NWS Upton NY Webmaster asking for help. His reply is below. How cool is this! The government actually responds helpfully! Thanks, Jeff!

Skip,

These are time series for a single point generated via our Digital Forecast Database.

Go here:

http://www.weather.gov/forecasts/graphical/sectors/conus.php

(select the "Get Text Forecast" radio button or you could zoom in first)

Click where you want to go and you'll get the digital forecast.

Scroll down on that page and you'll see "Additional Forecasts and Information"

Click "Hourly Weather Graph" and you've got! This works for any place in the country.

If you think we should have that linked directly from the link above (I think it should be) - send me an e-mail and I'll forward it to Washington. They listen to users a lot more than they'll listen to me (an NWS employee).

While I have you .... have you seen this?

These are the aviation weather discussions that the forecast offices issue.

Wow, that's neat Skip. I like the graphical interface to the aviation forecast discussions... great site. Further reason I'm glad the Accuweather bill never made it anywhere.

Cheers,

-Andrew

It pays to poke around. I use that page all the time and never bothered to check those bottom links.
