Hi all,

If you live West of the Mississippi River, may I humbly suggest that you make a stop in Iowa City, IA (KIOW) on Saturday, July 26th to partake in our annual Oshkosh fly-in pool party?

Each year we serve FREE food, refreshments (adult and otherwise), music, and hangar flying at poolside at our aviation themed, luxury suites hotel, the Alexis Park Inn & Suites, for all of our brethren on their way to Oshkosh, as our way of saying "thanks!" for another great year.

Stop in for a bratwurst, take a dip, and top off your tanks (our FBO will offering a 25 cent-per-gallon discount that day) -- or stay the night. We'll pick you up and drop you off at your plane, lickity split.

While you're at the inn, check out our full-sized flight simulator, "The Kiwi"! We'll have it set up to simulate the FISK approach into OSH, and you can practice the whole thing before you get into the busiest airspace in the world! (And, if you're spending the night, you can see how a few adult beverages may affect your flying...) Again, it's all FREE.

Then, the next morning (not TOO early), we all fly in *loose* (very!) formation up to OSH. Some years we have three planes, some years we have nine -- but it's always safe, fun, and educational. Mary and I have attended Airventure for 25 consecutive years, so if you have any questions about flying into "the Big One" we can probably help you.

Best of all, it's a nice, easy 80-minute flight into OSH from Iowa City, which allows you to arrive in the world's busiest airspace fresh and sharp. The LAST thing you want to do is arrive in OSH at the end of an 8-hour day of flying...

Then, because we've flown in together, we will all get parked (relatively) close together in the North 40 -- so the party can continue all week!

See the official invitation here: http://www.alexisparkinn.com/iowa_city_pool_party.htm

Read about our aviation themed hotel here: www.AlexisParkInn.com If you wish to spend the night, make reservations early! If we're sold out we will allow camping on the hotel grounds FREE OF CHARGE -- and we will have shower facililties available for campers to use.

Hope you can join us!

Well, you can take advantage of the "cheap" gas discount, and you're welcome to come over for a dip in the pool -- but we won't be cooking any food till 3 PM.

Or, spend the night, and fly up with us on Sunday? It's a lot of fun!

Thanks for the reply. I will stop for some cheap gas but need to heading out before 3pm.

Have a great party, sorry I will miss it.

Is there a gas discount? Seems like IOW is usually my most expensive fuel stop on the way to OSH every year.

Yep. Our FBO is extending a 25 cent per gallon discount on the day of the party.

Wow, that used to be a HUGE discount. Remember those days?

$0.25 is smaller than it used to be?

Boy, it sure seems that way. I filled the Mighty Grape (our mogas fuel truck) yesterday -- $230!!

And, sadly, I felt like I was getting a deal... (Compared to avgas, at $5.40/ gallon, I was...)

Jay: Want to trade airplanes? I'll take the 235 and you can have my 140. ;-)
(just learn to pack light)

Nope, sorry, Bob. We tried the old "0-320" route with our old Warrior, remember?

With two teenagers, and a week's worth of camping gear, the Pathfinder is really the ONLY 4-seat aircraft that fits the bill. We'd have to take the Ercoupe AND the 140 to carry an equal amount!

:p

Jay ...

Where did you get the cool map of "I've landed here" to post at the bottom of your messages?

Jim

I'm not sure of my schedule yet, but I may stop by for some drinking and flying(sim, that is) Sat evening. It's right on my flight path almost.

Tell me more about the 'north 40' parking? Is that good, or bad, or what.....

The North 40 is where all Spam Can airplane campers are parked. If you're flying an antique, or a homebuilt, etc, you have the option of camping in other areas -- but the North 40 is where the vast majority of fly-in campers park.

It's first come, first served parking -- there's no such thing as "reserving" a spot. As a result, you don't know where you'll end up until you arrive. This is one reason to fly up with us on Sunday morning -- you're pretty well assured that you'll be parked somewhat close to people you know!

IMHO the North 40 is "real" Oshkosh. It's where grass roots aviation is still alive and well...

That's in the FAQs around this site, somewhere. When I saw others with these cool maps, I poked around until I figured it out.

If the FAQs don't get you a link, I found half a dozen free "maps of where I've traveled" websites on the internet. You just select the states you've landed in, add a caption, and have the website make the map for you. Save it as a .jpg file (or .gif), and add it to your signature line!

.

It looks like my schedule has changed. I may not be getting in until Wed. I'm going to try camping in the Vintage area with my B35. I still may stop by the airport for a rest.
