I'm looking to finish up my PPL after a long lay-off. Have all the minimum required hours but probably need around 15-20 hrs (including XC) to shake off the rust. The plan is to take 10 days off work which means weather has to be on my side (hence leaving the New England area for that period). I'm thinking of going to FL or TX to do an "accelerated finish up course". I was initially looking at Thrust Academy at KADS but seems like a busy airport/airspace and long take-off waiting times too (which I don't need since I will generally fly out of a quiet airport after my PPL). Any recommendation for schools in somewhat non-busy airports in Florida or Texas that have DPEs on staff so I can get through this in one shot in a couple of weeks?

Thanks

I think you’re asking for conflicting things. Anyplace that has DPEs on staff is going to be fairly busy by necessity.

You’ll likely find that scheduling a DPE will be the most challenging part of this. Be prepared to be flexible.

Go to Riggin Flight Service in Madison, SD (KMDS). Not only will they finish up your private, but if you do it in their Cessna 140, you also get a tailwheel endorsement out of the deal. Instructors and DPE on staff.

I have no connection to them other than I did my IFR finish up there. Similar to you, had all the requirements met. Just needed recency and proficiency to take the checkride. Heard they did instrument training in a tailwheel for a good price so figured why not. I did it in December by the way, and other than thick fog one day, it was beautiful weather for flying.
