I just got the intel mac and need to move files - maybe....The external
drive (western digital) is formatted as Mac OS Extended Journaled. Will
it work just fine on the intel mac or should I reformat to the original
mac/win version?

That should work fine. Mac OS Extended Journaled is the default and desired.

I went through that conversion this year from a G5 to an intel Mac Pro. Really the only thing you have to concern yourself with is if you've loaded 3rd party applications that are PPC apps. They'll still run, apparently in some kind of emulation mode that I don't understand. But I went back and downloaded the Intel versions and it's all happy and fast.

Yep, you're good. If you have old apps and a brand-new machine running Snow Leopard, it may prompt you to install Rosetta - So keep your system DVD's within reach until you know all your apps will launch. For me, my really old copies of GraphicConverter and QuickBooks needed Rosetta after I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

The hard drive, however, you won't need to do a thing to. :)
