portable ptt mutes intercom?

We tried a DC portable PTT in the right seat yesterday, but when it was plugged in, the intercom (GTR 225) didn't work on that side. I could hear myself, my son could hear me, but I couldn't hear him. I need to try the left seat jacks next time. Both of us have Zulu 3's. Any thoughts on what would cause this?

mismatched connectors?

does it work at home when not plugged into anything but the headsets?

did you try other headsets?

Many of the portable PTT ground (or disconnect) the headset microphone when the button is not pressed. As a result the intercom won't hear that microphone. This is why the Sigtronics SPO intercoms have a separate jack for the PTT from the microphone so that won't happen. The other option is to bugger the PTT or make an adapter (I chose the latter).
