Destroyed a perfectly good plane, I hope it was worth it.

I think it would have been a lot better to ram the tail with his hood, the effect would have been the same but it would have been much safer for the occupants of the car. I was afraid that wing was going to cut his head off along with the roof.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they were stolen drugs, not stolen electronics. Unless they were iphones, i am imagining things $150k of TVs, stereos, and cameras are not fitting in that plane.

Everyone is reporting it as stolen electronics. If you have some insight into it being drugs and not just a SWAG that would be interesting to read.

But then they might have tried to horse it off the ground anyway (if still possible)- that could have been very bad for all concerned. I think he made the right call in going for a "heading change". Not sure if he expected the gear to collapse, but that sure did the trick.

Yeah that sound more like it. The number of TVs you can fit into a Cherokee is very limited.

If that was a PA28-161, its 24 gallons in each wing. Either way though, your toast if it blows.

Didn't we see Jack Bauer do this on 24? That Piper had terrorists with a nuke and took forever to get airborne.

I think if the idiot pilot remembered to use short field technique and put in two notches of flaps the cops would have just seen the bottom as it climbed away.

Got ya.. I figured it was a larger piper possibly with bigger tanks. They said they arrested 5 people and found 150k of electronics. Cant fit that in a 161! Or maybe thats why i was taking them so long to lift off

The plane in the video is a PA32 not a PA28-161. It'll seat 5, but you won't go very far. I suspect that not all 5 were in the plane. Some of them were probably arrested on the field as part of the whole operation.

I wonder what type of car that was. Why couldn't they stop the stuff from being loaded, or stopped the plane before it started? Seems safer, plus pretty cool that 2 or 3 officers can take down a plane! I didn't see anyone else in the area. It took a SWAT team, a MD520, a Bell 412, and a US Marshalls team to take down a small time known drug dealer up the road. Pretty cool to see what one car can do!
