One of the features we haven't leveraged yet here at POA is the ability to add new smilies to be added to posts, and to also build an "Avatar Library" for users who may not have any pics of their own to use.

While the net is full of images which we could pick and choose from, the simple fact is, we don't have the time to go hunting various sites wading through image after image trying to find ones suitable for PilotsOfAmerica.com.

So we're turning to you for help! :)

If you have some aviation related smilies or just general smilies that you think would be generally suited for use here, or if you have some avatar sized pics that are avaition related that you wouldn't mind others using, please share them with us. We'll go through the submissions and add the best ones! :)

Avatar Dimensions
Avatars can be no lager than 100px by 100px and no bigger than 150kB in size. Animated gifs are acceptible if they fall within those parameters.

Smily Dimensions
Smilies should generally be 16px by 16px. Animated gif's are ok, and size restrictions may be waived for particularly good smilies - especially animated ones that are aviation related.

Thank you for your support of Pilots of America!

Chuck,

I will email some to you.

while we are on the avatar question, if you change yours, will the old posts reflect it, or only ones going forward? same for signatures - will it change all the old posts or only new ones going forward?

thanks

Signatures will not be changed in existing posts if you change your signature.

Avatars WILL change in existing posts if you change your avatar.

Yeah, they will.

Sigs and Avatars are pulled from the user table on every access, so all avatar and sig changes are 100% retroactive. -5 technogeek points from Brian! :p

(Saves space in the DB by not copying it into each message, and allows you to go into a post later and enable/disable the display of your sig w/o editing)

Sigh. Stick with what you know, BA.

(Note to self: hack Chuck's e-mail account and set up as spam zombie.)

Did I say that out loud? :p

Chuck,

Out of an abundance of caution, are there any legal issues using copyrighted material in avatars? For example, using something from the comic strips?

Not a lawyer, didn't sleep in any motel last night.....

There can be legal issues with use of copyrighted/trademarked material and so POA will not provide any known copyrighted material for use by its users w/o premission of the licence holder. If you choose to upload an attachment, avatar or profile pic which is copyrighted, we will assume you are doing so with proper permission. As always, we reserve the right to delete anything deemed inappropriate, at will, without warning, including avatars, attachments, profile or signature pics.
