It seems that Pilotsofamerica.com forums is alot like Facebook. :)

I love to read some of the stuff and other stuff is just weird but I can't get away from either of it. Every time I think I won't look I do. Some people post good informational stuff.

Just random thought of the day.

Lawlz. Status update! Ebykowsky is out of bed now. Gonna B a gud day.
Like this comment and pass to 10 frnds or u wil hav bad luk 4 a week!

Truthfully though, differences:
1. People write properly here.
2. There is useful info here.
3. You can actually expand your knowledge here.
4. People understand what you mean when you say, "I got my pilot certificate!" (Note: they do not understand if you use the word "license.")
5. We actually probably care more about each other than 80% of our Facebook friends.
6. I use POA as much as my friends use Facebook, and I use Facebook about as often as they visit POA.

Truthfully though, differences:
1. People write properly here. not perfect but certainly better than FB
2. There is useful info here. unless you're a liberal visiting the spin zone
3. You can actually expand your knowledge here. see above
4. People understand what you mean when you say, "I got my pilot certificate!" (Note: they do not understand if you use the word "license.") I also like "ticket"
5. We actually probably care more about each other than 80% of our Facebook friends. Absolutely, and it has that great friendly feel 99% of the time.
6. I use POA as much as my friends use Facebook, and I use Facebook about as often as they visit POA. I'm getting there myself

Well said! To me FB never feels like community.

I use Facebook to keep up with what the kids are doing. It never feels uncaring there. Though we don't always agree, my Facebook friends never gang up on each other. Reality is more diverse on Facebook. I love the aviation information to be found on PoA and the true friends.

1. I refuse Facebook. Period.

2. I actively POA.

Facebook is a good way to keep up with some of my family and friends that live in SoCal. PoA is more interesting, though.

Funny you should say that. I avoid facebook like the plague mainly because I just don't need to be that out there with my personal life, and I give my wife a hard time about the time she is on facebook and the inevitable drama that comes out of that.

About two weeks ago my daughter ask her what I was doing on my I-pad and she said Tim is on the facebook for pilots website.

In some ways you are correct, but I agree that there is some good information to be gained here.

Family is spread far and wide, Facebook is a way to share pictures. and PM the family news.

That's the whole problem I have with Facebook. It's publically accessible and publically searchable, and I don't want my friends, families, coworkers, clients, wives, girlfriends, bookies, escorts, pimps, pushers, etc... knowing where I am and what I'm doing. I already have a tool that allows me to communicate with people I need to communicate with. It's called email. And I use Skype too.

FB is a great site when used appropriately, and with realistic expectations.

I treat everything I post there as public information. My family is pretty spread out and it keeps me in touch. I don't post too often, myself; maybe a couple of times a month. I do read through the posts at least once a day, though.

In the age we live in you must assume that everything you type, post, pic or what ever will be made available to the public as some point in time. This would include FB, POA, or any of the methods we use to communicate.

I read somewhere that Facebook is becoming more popular with "mature" adults and teens have becomed bored with it. One reason there is some hope it will eventually become profitable and reward those who bought into the IPO.

Cheers

Facebook is exactly what you make of it. You can customize everything to your individual wants.
