Planning Long X-Ctry, Finding Places of Interest

OK,

I'm planning to rent a plane and fly KOLV-KBVY (approx 1000 nm).

I start out on any planning tool with a long straightish line.

I'll definitely want to stop and overnight someplace along the way.

If it's a good spot, I want to maybe sightsee for a day.

What are easy ways to search for day trip stops and B&Bs along the way?

Rand-McNally? No, really.

Find towns along your route, internet search for places of interests. That's how I do it. I'd kick myself for making a fuel stop only to learn later the town a few miles away had some real interest.

If you like really cool old towns with a good selection of B&Bs then check out Madison, IN (KIMS). And depending on what you're flying the distance is pretty good for a first stop at a bit over 300 nm.

If you like cabins and golf and lakes then check out Rough River State Park (2i3). That one may be a little too close to home..only 225 nm into your trip.

I don't have an answer for easy ways to search...unless it's asking here.
