Hello all,
My buddy's Piper Archer needs a new carb heat shroud (p/n 62981-06 and -07). We've had the original one repaired about as many times as possible and new parts are needed. I shopped around a bit. Piper parts are a bit spendy and most retailers are selling PMA'ed parts from AWI. From what I have learned, AWI is pretty reputable and does good work for less than Piper prices. I poked around a bit and found planexhaust.com. They offer the two parts about 20% - 25% less than those from AWI. Any feedback or info on this planexhaust.com is appreciated.

As always, thanks in advance!

I ordered a exhaust riser from them 6 months ago for my Duke (TIO541). My A&P was pleased with the part, it's been installed and functioning as expected. Looked nice when it showed up, and they turned it around pretty fast for less money than the others. I'd use them again.

Data point appreciated. Thank you!

I bought a muffler shroud from them this spring. I paid for overnight shipping and they delivered. Part fit and looked good. Quite a bit cheaper than the Hartzell brands. They accepted my core. I will use them again.

I noticed that they will also build using Inconel as an option. I had an exhaust section on my T210 welded but suspect that it will eventually need replacement. Knisely wants a body part and my firstborn for the segment. I will have to check out Plane exhaust when the inevitable occurs.

Goods info. Thanks! We ordered up the shroud and will report back on fitment once it arrives. Interesting is that it is made out of 321 SS instead of the mystery aluminum material piper used in their design. Fingers crossed.

Completely replaced my Dakota’s exhaust 5 years ago with their parts and no issues since then.

Update: The parts (carb heat shroud for PA28) arrived pretty quickly. We had to do a fair amount of trimming and such to get the two halves to set properly on the existing exhaust system. But as these parts are made of 321 stainless and quite a bit beefier than the OEM Piper shroud, I am optimistic that we don't need to repair or replace them any time soon. The last photo shows the first round of trimming. There were quite a few more "adjustments" made. The hole locations were roughly correct but we had to modify the mounts a little bit as well. I was hoping for a pretty simple "bolt it together and call it good" type of project. In reality, it took a lot longer than expected. Overall though, we are pretty satisfied with the end result.
