Plane Down Shy of KDKB

Looks like VFR from Evansville, IN. Maybe got rushed trying to get in before the weather?

Weather at De Kalb at the time of the accident (1730Z):

KDKB 271735Z AUTO 00000KT 10SM SCT034 30/23 A3000 RMK AO2 T03030231

There was a persistent scattered to broken layer in the metro, lifting from 030 to 040 from the morning through early afternoon, then it was severe clear the rest of the day until the storms arrived very early this morning.

There was also some convection to the east of the route that popped around 21Z. We’d have to pull the rest of yesterday’s forecast to see if there was anything provoking get-there-itis, but it really doesn’t look like it at first glance.

Just over a two hour flight, so nothing really pushing the range. It was fairly humid, though. Well into the carb icing range. Dunno, glad there weren’t any fatalities, though.
