Looks like he made it in before the weather turned bad (from a nearby airport):

[/FONT]Looks like he just overran the runway. :dunno:

overran? looks to me like he came up short. in the picture runway 20 is right at the top of that hill. i live 10 min. from the airport.

Yeah, I think came up short is more like it. Like pat said, RW20 starts at the top of the hill.

Anyone know the tail number?

I was looking to do some pattern work tomorrow there, but the airport is closed until further notice, and I'd imagine it will be closed for a few days.

That makes sense. I've never flown in there before.

Caught by a microburst on short final? :dunno:

One of my thoughts as well. About 7 months ago, I caught some wind shear on final at Brainard, not too far from this airport. Plane just dropped like I was in free-fall for a second or two. Luckily I had just turned final with altitude to spare.

From one of the crash pictures, looks like the plane slammed belly first in to the hill. Maybe came in too low, pulled up, stalled, and dropped.

heres how close he was

What'd you just take a fly-by?!

Kinda weird, though, as the empenage is sitting on the fence, and that's the only part of the fence that'd damaged. The pilot didn't plow through the fence, but more of plopped down right on it.

yea plopped is a good way to describe it. i went there this morning and the government guys were holding a news conference. it's awful that the guy died but i hope it was the impact that killed him. fire has to be the worst way to go. he was literally 20 feet from the runway.

My condolences to the family, but it appears that its just not Cirrus that explode....

p.s. where are all the cirrus haters now?

Wind shear might be a good explination. Those storms that rolled through showed a huge bow-echo on the radar which is not very common in New England. Then again he could have just been too slow. Sucks that he was literally just short of the runway. The impact was hard enough to ruptur the tanks - I'm guessing that was a pretty hard hit. And bending the wings down would make it near impossible to open the doors. Really sad.

I hope it was the impact and not being trapped in a fire. One of my flight instructors always said unlock the baggage compartment door before you take off. You never know if that might be you're only exit.

Apparently the pilot had over 1000 hours, too. Very sad.
