One might think so, if uninformed and quickly glancing at the devastation. I've never seen motor vehicles so scattered over 1000 feet of a city street.

The deceased was my employee when he was in high school and for longer when he was home from college and beyond those years. His father was a full time employee and the brains behind my photo lab. How unceremonious can it be to be "funeralized" on one's birthday. It's so easy to remember those years when I, though unrelated, received a Father's Day card; and will be so hard to not remember this occasion.

Sad for the kid............:sad::sad:

What was the posted speed limit on that stretch of road? 180 MPH ?

30 mph(maybe 35), right in front of Fairview Elementary School, not far from large Clover Rest Home(large building in shape of a clover), and one of the city's Fire Dept. stations. It's a wide street, main route to the outskirts, and to Auburn-Lewiston Airport.

Thing about Maine is that the roads wind all over the place and lots of hills/trees so you don't always see what is ahead and people still drive fast. Add in the winter weather and black ice and accidents like that are pretty common. When I was a volunteer firefighter in Castine, ME, almost all of our calls this time of year were car accidents and then a few odd chimney fires here and there.

I am betting speed will be a "contributing" factor in this wreck.:yesnod::yesnod:.

Looking at the damage and the sheer distance of all the debris my bet is in the 70-80 MPH range... Maybe faster. The one snowmobile that's sitting on the road............ did it fly out of the trailer or was it in the back of the pickup? Nice sled too.:yesnod:

Rick was headed east, approaching the crest of a hill to descend. The other vehicle had just come up the long and moderately steep Minot Avenue hill. (I'm only describing the area, having traveled it many times while going to/from KLEW or to/from Lost Valley Ski Area[or the restaurant where I once had dinner with PoA R. M. Ciotti]).
I've long sensed that a driver, once having ascended and crested the hill and then seeing a rather lengthy straight away, doesn't adhere to the speed zone signs or the school signage. This observation is not based on fact, but - - - -
I know no other details of the accident(re snowmobile). However, I know a lady who's friendly with the safety department and told me that, though the crash was at 10:30 Sunday morning, "they were still cleaning the area until 4:00 Monday morning; body parts all over the place." Cherokee was seen weaving in and out of traffic.
