Not a lot of details yet.

Two people are reported to have died in an airplane crash that occurred late Wednesday afternoon near the airport in Center.

Firemen and other emergency crews were dispatched to the location, just south of the Center Airport on Highway 7, shortly after 4:00, when it was reported that the aircraft had went down in a field by Watson and Sons Funeral Home.

It's not known what happened, but it is believed that the Cessna 206 single engine aircraft was on final approach to land at the Center Airport, when the crash occurred.

A reliable source in the aviation community at Center has told KJAS Radio News that the pilot of the aircraft, a logger from Tenaha, was John D. Scull, 73, and his wife, Carolyn Hooker Scull, 81, were pronounced dead at the scene. This information was confirmed early Thursday afternoon by Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant David Hendry in Lufkin.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are reportedly investigating the cause of the crash.

Scull, who was well known throughout East Texas and West Louisiana, once had an office here in Jasper.

Oh, Nacogdoches is about 40 miles from the crash site.
