I'm in Omaha for most of July and wondered where some of you around here go? I found a hangar at Blair and even though I'm from Omaha, I haven't flown around here much.

Any ideas?

Pancake breakfast 17 July in Crete; Norfolk has one 18 July. I think there's one in York as well but I don't know the date.

Depending on your time, the sand hills and Scott's bluff are supposed to be pretty...as I'm from out east, I'm still learning what's here myself.

There are a few pancake breakfasts. No real fun destinations with restaurants unless you venture 200 nm or so. Not much for scenery around here. Missouri River / Platte river...That's about it.

Nebraska City has the Arbor Lodge and arboretum, which is really nice. There's some other interesting historical stuff there, too.

Thanks for the info...I figure part of the fun is exploring too. I like to fish and the sandhills are nice so maybe a trip to Ainsworth for fishing at Long Pine.

Don't know what a ".ram" file is...but the link offered to save it to my computer.

I hit "no" to that offer. With a an extension name like that...it's probably going to fill my computer with porn.

RealAudio file....A 60-sec snippet of the song "I Hate To Wake Up Sober in Nebraska".

Are the cranes out on the Platte river in July?

Scott, believe it or not, I've seen more cranes in IL than I have in NE and I lived in NE for 25 years. OK, maybe I didn't look that hard while I lived there but I really have seen cranes over the years just west of Crystal Lake before Woodstock. Cool looking birds.

On a side note, Man are there a LOT of towers out here! I took off from Millard and my garmin was RED with towers...had to climb a bit to get them to go yellow. In the pattern I got a warning for obstacle...a little scary when you are not that familiar with a place.

Those garmins just scare you. Look out the window and don't fly into anything.

Just saw a couple in that are on my way to Galt the other morning. But I would still love to see the mass migration on the Platte River one day.

I live across the st from the back side of the Hollows and we get all manner of birds over there including cranes.

Another cool place to go see cranes is up in Baraboo at the ICF. I am a member there and try to go every years.
