On another board we organized our Fourth Annual Flyin to Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland. I thought others might appreciate a mini-PIREP on this destination.
Burke is located "on" Lake Erie (juts out into the lake and its parallel runways run...parallel...to the shore). It has a control tower and is well maintained.
What makes Burke so much fun is that it is a mini-Meigs due to its location relative to the lake and nearby downtown area. Obviously, Cleveland is not Chicago, but there is a lot to offer.
Within walking distance is the USS Cod WWII submarine that is docked on the lake and open for tours. Next door is the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Next door to it is the Great Lakes Science Center and IMAX theatre, which is also next to the Brown's Stadium. All of these run along the shore and provide a beautiful surrounding.
If you wanted to venture to other locations, it would be a quick taxi ride to restaurants, bars (8 hours.... ), etc.
The airport also has a Women of Aviation display, with aerobatic aircraft, INSIDE the terminal and a pair of F4 Phantoms on static display outside the terminal.
All-in-all it is a great destination.
