Has Anyone installed a knots 2 U glare shield in their Piper arrow? If so Any feedback?
 
I would like to know the answer also as it may be the same part for my Archer2.
 
Not in an arrow but on my 140. Make sure the rivet nuts are secure on the defrost opening or they will spin when you install the vents. Also it is MUCH easier to do with the windshield removed. Two sided tape in specific places is a must.

There seem to be few options for glareshield replacement. I am researching this again as my windshield also needs to be replaced.
It seems that the knots2u replacement cannot be used when there exists an avionics hump in the original. I think I have such a hump in my 1980 P28-181 like some Arrows.

I have been told that the Ashby model available from Aircraft Spruce may work but is fiberglass without cushy padding.

Hopefully, someone can add to the information as the replacement glare shield problem is not going away.

I have the knots2u glareshield and it looks beautiful! Sorry I don’t have a photo of the top, but it’s very sleek. Don’t forgot the throttle quadrant and the pieces below it too, to match. (Mine were tan color before and I swapped them all to black)

What year and model Piper do you have. While your “eyebrow” looks straight with it’s gradual curve over the panel, can you tell me if there is any kind of hump up in the front of this which is especially noticeable if you follow the metal strip, that screws down the eyebrow and that extends from left to right, that attaches to the underlying base? The semantics of what a “hump” is is driving me a little battey.

Also, do you have the 2 defroster ducts in front in addition to the third vent/duct over the radio stack on the center right side that is close to that aforementioned screwed down strip? Apparently, the Knots2U option does not account for that radio stack vent/duct.

Since my eyebrow is in great shape, it turns out my AI just said that he can lay out an appropriate piece of vinyl using the old as a template while the windshield is out. This may be an option for some of us also and could be competitively priced.

It’s a 1969 Piper Arrow, the first Arrow. It looks absolutely beautiful, no hump in the middle per se, if I am going to be picky, I’d say that under the glareshield needs a designated spot for a LED strip light. There is a spot now but I think it’s a tad too close to the panel, but I’m not even sure if that would make a difference being an inch further away or not. I’m also adjusting to the newness of it all.

I only have the 2 defrost holes (not the third), and it looks like they’ve raised the prices on these. Maybe email them and see if they can make you one and explain you don’t want the hump?

Piper PA-28 Glareshield. ADS-PG001

The new Glareshield is designed to replace the old ugly covering normally found on the fascia above the instrument panel. It is made of temperature stable Lexan, padded with a FAA approved soundproofing foam and covered with a special leather grain like non-glare vinyl.

I’ve actually looked at the Ashby which looks nice with its material texture, but it is firm. It does account for all three of my vents though. The lip past the instrument panel has a downward curve. This would be a convenient place for a strip of LEDs to illuminate the panel, if desired, although for a hundred more, Ashby does have its own lighting option. On the installed one I looked at, that was at least 7 yrs old, there was a crack developing on that end lip on a well used club aircraft.

Although the Knots2U version looks very much like the OEM, it would have to be modified in some way by my IA to accommodate my radio stack vent.

Since my OEM eyebrow is in excellent shape, I may just have my IA lay a leatherette/vinyl piece of material down that will conform to all the vents. While they estimate installation to be about 4hrs and 100-150 for material, although seemingly more expensive, I wouldn’t be surprised if jury rigging the Knots2U for my aircraft, plus installation, would turn out costing only slightly less.
