Question for fellow pilots — when you were building flight hours, how did you find other pilots to fly with and split costs? Did you rely on your flight school, Facebook groups, word of mouth, or something else entirely?

I was cutting my teeth before Facebook, but I was always able to find guys hanging around the flight school/club to fly with. We'd find places to go for lunch, and then take turns under the hood and shoot approaches.

I spent a lot of time bumming rides in the back seat too - didn't help my logbook, but I still found it valuable to watch others do their thing.

Not sure it is feasible in your particular situation, but I bought a plane with a long-long-time friend. We owned it together for about 20 years until he hung up his wings. Now it's mine. We're still friends.

Are you building hours to go commercial or just hours? I guess it’s mox nix really.

make friends at the flight school. Fly as safety pilot. Join a local flying association. Talk to other pilots at the airport. Once you get the word out you might be surprised how much time you get.
