We can see that the finger screen would have protected the fuel flow in this instance. It had to be removed though...

Maybe sheet plastic films have similar optical properties to hydrocarbon fuels. That might make them absolutely disappear until the tank is drained?

That is why I suggested trying a UV led flashlight like used for a/c leak detection dye
