I'd pick #2 and supplement with an experienced temp hire for certain situations.

I answered originally on tapatalk and did not have time to expand on my answer.

I picked the 25 yo because I was promoted to the Captain's position on a 72' yacht when I was 23. Someone had enough faith in me and my judgement and gave me a great opportunity to grow. When we made our first significant trip I hired an experienced Captain to help.

If I had the $ described, I'd like to repay the favor and give that sort of opportunity and adventure to another.
