I think I've seen this before. I suspect that it's not as easy to fly as it looks. I think I saw them giving tethered demo flights to TV reporters.

I would definitely like the opportunity to try one if I was anywhere within the gross weight limits.

Imagine if these became popular. There would be a lot of noise - from the rush of kneejerks running to write new laws to outlaw them.

There were some postings about this on Vertical Reference a month or so ago. The a/c (if you can call it that) is unusual in that it solves the torque problem with coaxial contrarotating main rotors. The only production helicopters (that I know of anyway) to use this scheme are the Kamov family of Russian civilian and military birds.

The design is simpler in that no tail rotor is necessary, but more complicated in that differential collective is needed to make one of these thing do the equivalent of a pedal turn.

I've yet to hear any fellow Rotorhead say "Wow. I'd sure like to fly one of these!" :hairraise:

Does anyone have the link to the guy wearing stiff, short wings, and I think jet engines on his ankles?? (or maybe on the wings) I think he jumped from an airplane and wore a parachute.

or this guy...

If you start high enough you don't need engines.

Bob, did you forget KAMAN Helicopters? Still in businees right here in the good old USA. Charles KAMAN produced the very successful HUSKY counter rotating helicopter which served the USAF (fire fighting/rescue) for many years. Check out http://hh43b-husky.net/. Currently the company produces the K-MAX, favored by logging company's for its external load prowess. they also sub-contract for the likes of BOEING and others.
