James was supposed to report to a court in Lilburn, Ga. to resolve a traffic citation – some 29 miles away.

Failure to appear could have resulted in a warrant for his arrest. So James decided to do what needed to be done -- he would walk.
...
Police Officer Andy Blimine saw James and felt compelled to help. But James rebuffed his offer. Soon, two other officers showed up and they, too, offered to lend a hand.

“I couldn’t let him walk that far,” Officer Blimine told WSB.

James fought back tears as the officers gave him $80 for cab fare back to Atlanta.

Too bad someone hadn't noticed him on the way to court...but seriously, bravo to the officers who, through a simple, random, act of kindness, showed that humanity is not yet lost.

6dF in Atlanta? That's unheard of!

Good for them.

Kudos to the officers. I don't think all officers are bad. In fact, I have family members with a law enforcement background.

I just think that when an officer abuses his power it is an egregious violation of the trust our society has placed in them, and is incredibly damaging. This is compounded when officers circle the wagons to protect their own.

Completely different circumstances than cops on a power trip - why wouldn't someone praise these officers for being human beings? It is too bad that it always seems either or though . . . .

If the coppers didn't give him a BS ticket in the first place...

I would say the majority of cops are good and not on power-trips.
The problem is the ones that are bad make the news and all we here about.
Like most things the few bad make everyone look bad.

How come the good cops don't stop/punish/arrest/fire the bad cops?

Must of been a really bad day for the guy...lost his temper and then lost his job.
Must have been. Who knows, maybe his wife was diagnosed with Cancer earlier in the day.
Problem is, he does this, and according to an earlier report, he was suspended with pay (a vacation). If I did this, I'd have an UNpaid vacation and jail time.
Thank God for video...

Back to the subject, this is not an either/or situation. There are good cops, very good cops and cops on a power trip. I've met all three.

The problem is the incredible damage a cop on a power trip can do, and usually get away with it.

You said it better than I did. Who knows what else went wrong that day. That said, pulling a gun like that can't be ignored and obviously it wasn't ignored so the right thing was done.

Yep...and those are the only stories we ever seem to hear about.

Yes, the title of the post was incidiary, and intentionally so...it was meant to get the usual suspects who jump on every negative incident as a sign of incipient corruption, and show another side.

In any population of people there are *******s. There are also saints. Sometimes we need to spend just a little effort to lift up the saints, and a little less time focused on the *******s.

Although somewhat admirable, does anyone else think that something has got to be wrong with this guy to walk 29 miles in that kind of weather with light clothing on?

One would think some other kind of solution would have been possible...
