Looking for a few paint shops to consult. I’ve spoken with one in Smoketown PA that is quoting $28k for two paint scheme on my 182 or about $34k with all fiber glass replacements. Wanted consult a few other shops before committing. Willing to do it anywhere on the eastern half of the country

Also people who have gone through the paint process before - if there is any “I wish I knew this before starting” advice you have would be appreciated

Do those prices include taxes? Some states like Florida don’t have taxes on aircraft maintenance on small planes, can make a difference.

That is a good question. I would assume so as they told me an additional 3% is added as an epa clean up fee. Something I will follow up on

Keep in mind getting your plane painted involves disassembly and re-installation of control surfaces. Discuss the procedures with the paint shop A&P and make sure they aren't going to do anything evil to your plane in the process. Also talk to the A&P about what they'll do if they find condition or airworthiness issues. Make sure you have confidence in the shop as airframe mechanics, as well as painters.
