Pain in Maine - One Fatal

Huh, I didn't hear anything about this.

Real sad, it sounds like he almost made it.

I wonder whether he had a medical emergency on board and put it down in the water then tried to make it to shore or if he died of injuires sustained in the ditching.

This one just feels weird to me. Why was he low, and slow over water?

The water temperature is about 64*, according to a NOAA web site. Jumping into water that chilly can be a shock to the system, but it ought to be survivable if the person is in good health.

Hmm...he was based out of Twitchell's. I should know a few folks who knew him. A damn shame.

It is a strange situation. Perhaps he was trying to get a good aerial of the lighthouse. Hopefully the investigation sheds some light.

I had the same thoughts, so close to Portland Headlight. Years ago I asked Portland Approach for permission to photo Old Orchard Beach. "Approved; fly 1200' and outbound of the beach." Late April, and the Beach was empty.

Thanks for that.

I feel like I have seen the documentary that the article mentions. It sounds familiar to me.

My guess is he stalled it low to the ground while taking pictures/circling around with no time to recover. Witnesses said that he hit the water at a real flat angle. It's impossible to take what the general public says for any worth, though. They tend to over exaggerate when it comes to eye witness accounts of plane crashes.

Remember the man who died in Greenville last summer, HR? eyewitnesses said he was doing loops low to the ground (in a 172)...lol. Amazing how sometimes things are seen that didn't really happen
