Commercial night XC gone bad. Looks like flight originated KSGR at 9pm. Landed KTYR 10:40. Took off 10 minutes later heading north in order to get the required 250nm leg. Reported loss of power and did an amazing job flying her to the ground.

Aren’t XC’s supposed to be flown solo, the flight school has no idea who pax was? Duration of both flights over 4.5 hours. Fuel starvation possible. Unlikely fuel was added in a 10 minute turn at Tyler. Heck, it takes me 30 minutes just figuring out how to work the fuel pumps half the time during daylight hours. Maybe Tyler was pax pickup?

the DUAL night xc is 100nm/2 hours, no such thing as 250nm night xc req for comm

Reading FAR 61.129 (4) Not a FAR expert but doesn’t it state that 10 hours solo or as PIC with authorized instructor must include one XC of 300nm, with one leg of 250nm? Nothing says it can’t be at night. Why else did the flight continue north from Tyler to Oklahoma where what looks to be a low pass on flightaware...that leg back to Sugarland is 264nm per ForeFlight (KHHW-KSGR). Too coincidental.

There are 2 XC requirements. The long one and then the day/night ones. The latter is supposed to be dual.
