The screws over time start to eat into the aluminum clearance hole.

Is there a reason flat washers are not used?

The fore and aft lines of screws? My Warrior has no washers either. The parts manual shows no washers.
I never thought of it before, maybe I'll add some. Thanks.

Another idea to preserve the very expensive cowling is to put metal foil tape over the wear lines the soft baffling wears into the underside.

Yes.

I recently purchased replacement screws since so many were starting to have the phillips head stripped out. Went ahead and bought SS flat washers to go with them.

I’ve seen a lot with plastic or fiber washers.
