Report makes it sound to me like a stall/spin while executing a missed approach. The ILS for 12 does have a climbing right turn on missed. "Dwiggins said eyewitnesses told police the plane was possibly attempting to turn back toward the airport when it "flipped over" and nose-dived into a corn field, bursting into flames."

The accident happened at about 1348Z. For reference, here’s the METAR that was reported 11 minutes after:

KAID 061359Z 00000KT 10SM BKN060/BKN110 21/18 A3004

The clouds lowered not long after as a front approached. Some light to moderate convective showers rolled through about an hour after.

The aircraft owner (and presumably pilot) was a friend of mine. I know that aircraft fairly well.

NTSB Final Report for N629AG

Based on the available information, the pilot failed to maintain sufficient airspeed during the missed approach and ultimately allowed the airplane to enter an aerodynamic stall from which he was unable to recover before impacting the terrain.

NTSB Probable Cause: The pilot’s inadequate airspeed management during the missed approach which resulted in an inadvertent aerodynamic stall and loss of control at low altitude.

You'd figure someone would be watching out. But then again, I know of a nice twin recently damaged in a runway overrun, due to landing hot and long. Two rated pilots in the front seats ...
